The 8th Fun Reading Day, co-organised and exclusively sponsored by the Hong Kong Chinese Importers’ and Exporters’ Association (HKCIEA) and the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, were held on 20 and 21 July in tandem with the Hong Kong Book Fair. About 1,000 local teachers and students joined the event! Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung and Secretary for Education Christine Choi Yuk-lin were respectively officiating guests of the secondary school and primary school groups. HKCIEA leaders including Pui Kwan-kay, Advisor of the Organising Committee of the event and HKCIEA President, were at the event to offer guidance.

Dr. Ko Wing-man, a member of the Executive Council, and Andy Yeung Yan-kin, Director of Fire Services, were invited to serve as guest speakers. They respectively shared their valuable life experiences. Writers Ms. Vincci Chu and Mr. Huang Jiang were invited to share with students their insight into writing.

The 2023 Fun Reading Day was held under the theme “Moving forward with courage”, which was designed to encourage students to deal with challenges during tough times. On the first day of the event, Edmond Lee Man-bun, Chairman of the Organising Committee of Fun Reading Day, represented the other co-organiser to deliver a welcome speech on the first day of the event. Cheung Man-ka, Vice Chairman of the Organising Committee, and Bryon Wong Tsz-wan, who represented Yiu Ming-yiu, Vice Chairman of the committee, respectively delivered a thank you speech to the primary school and secondary school groups!

In 2023, Fun Reading Day was into its eighth year. Since its inception, it has attracted 7,000 participants from local secondary and primary schools. HKCIEA has thus far contributed nearly $10 million to the event. Fun Reading Day owes its growing success to the solid support of different parties. The Organising Committee is especially grateful to various committee advisors, including HKCIEA President, Vice President and Honorary Secretary Wan Hang-ping, legislator Kennedy Wong Ying-ho representing the import-export sector, HKCIEA Honorary President Chan King, Permanent Honorary President Yiu Chi-shing, and Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers Chairman Wong Kam-leung. All of them lent great support and provided guidance to the event this year. The committee is also grateful to former HKCIEA Honorary Secretary Chan King for helping to establish, develop, make plans for and coordinate the Fun Reading Day brand over the past seven years, and to HKCIEA Honorary Secretary Wan for relentlessly coordinating Fun Reading Day and injecting new elements to the 2023 event! Many thanks also went to the RPU and HKCIEA volunteer teams for their support!
