HKCIEA President Pui Yuk-hung delivers report at members’ assembly chaired by Honorary Secretary Wan Hang-ping (14 August 2023)
The Hong Kong Chinese Importers’ and Exporters’ Association (HKCIEA) held the 2023 member assembly on 14 August 2023. During the meeting chaired by HKCIEA Vice President and Honorary Secretary Wan Hang-ping, President Pui Kwan-kay presented an HKCIEA report and Vice President Paul Leung Yuk-hung delivered a financial report. Guests attending the event included legislator Kennedy Wong Ying-ho (import-export sector).
In his speech, President Pui said that HKCIEA should work harder to put into practice the “four hopes” floated by Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding Hong Kong’s development. He urged the local business community, in particular the import-export sector, to work on integrating itself into national development, deepen ties and interactions with partners at home and abroad, play the role of a connector in the trading sector, make Hong Kong a more prosperous place, contribute to the city’s economic development and help improve people’s livelihood. HKCIEA is keen to make contributions!
In the HKCIEA report, Pui pointed out that HKCIEA has moved to a period of rapid development, with its systems becoming more established. Recently, HKCIEA held a large-scale brainstorming session to facilitate discussions on its development and growth direction. Pui, Vice President and Honorary Secretary Wan Hang-ping and other HKCIEA senior executives agreed that the current board should implement a “sunshine policy” to encourage all board members to actively get involved in association affairs! HKCIEA encourages board members to take part in association affairs by either “giving their hearts and efforts” or “giving their hearts, efforts and money”. Board members opting for either way will be given the platform to do so and will be recognised and commended.
Pui also said that under the coordination of Wan and with the concerted efforts of all board members, the new board will come up with new ideas and move with the times and fulfil HKCIEA’s goals of serving society, the import-export industry and HKCIEA members. Following every monthly board meeting, the Political and Business Talk is held to facilitate sharing of ideas between HKCIEA members and government ministers and other leading officials. The talk, widely popular among board members, is yet another important platform connecting the import-export industry and different sectors. So far, it has proved highly effective! HKCIEA will strive to turn the talk into another signature event. Not only will it address the needs of board member, but it will also serve to unite all HKCIEA members and broaden HKCIEA’s influence!
During the assembly, Pui reflected on HKCIEA’s development in various aspects over the past year, in particular over the eight months since the new board took office. He said that the board has made notable achievements and he hopes that HKCIEA, under the leadership of the new board and with the support of legislator Kenneth Wong, will continue to unite all members and gather their wisdom so that HKCIEA will keep serving Hong Kong effectively and give back to the country. HKCIEA will certainly move onward and upward. The notion that “HKCIEA is my home” is set to turn a new chapter!
The members’ assembly spanned the previous board. Lam Lung-on, president of the previous board, and Chan King, vice president and honorary secretary of the previous board, took time out of their busy schedules to attend the meeting and offer guidance. On the whole, nearly 100 people turned up at the event. They included Vice Presidents Tony Pang Chor-fu, Paul Leung Yuk-hung, David Ho Chi-ho, Andrew Chan Shiu-shan, Eddy Li Sau-hung and Kenneth Chan Kin-nin, Honorary Presidents Joseph Lee Chung-tak, Charles Cheung Hok-sau and Yu Kwei-chun, Vice Secretaries Byron Wong Tsz-wan, Edmond Lee Man-bun and Sophia Lee Shuk-woon, Executive Directors Chu Kwok-kee, Kwok Lap-pong, Luna Chiu Chung Yuet-king, Chan Chi-cheuk, Tony Chiu Chun-mo, Lee Fung-Nin, Ng Wing-yan, Ivan Wong Siu-kei, and HKCIEA member and legislator Ma Fung-kwok, Allen Shi Lop-tak, and lawyer Felix Fong Wo.
