Secretary for Security Chris Tang invited by HKCIEA to share experience of leading disciplinary forces to crack down on rioters (17 October 2023)

In expanding the scope of its work, the Hong Kong Chinese Importers’ and Exporters’ Association (HKCIEA) strives to come up with news ideas. The Political and Business Talk is a new programme introduced recently. It takes place after every monthly board meeting. On 17 October 2023, Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung was invited to be a keynote speaker of the talk and exchange views with board members in attendance.

HKCIEA Vice President and Honorary Secretary Wan Hang-ping chaired the meeting and represented President Pui Kwan-kay, who was in Beijing for the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, to praise Secretary Tang for leading Hong Kong’s disciplinary services, in particular the police force, to serve Hong Kong with honour, duty, loyalty and courage at critical moments. As a result, the forces were able to overcome many challenges, and stability was restored in Hong Kong.

Summing up his experience in cracking down on “black rioters” amid the extradition controversy in 2019, Secretary Tang said that leaders should give clear instructions in times of danger and unswervingly enforce the law without fear in the face of reckless thugs. Such is the way to restore social stability. Nonetheless, although stability has returned to Hong Kong, there are geopolitical tensions and it is necessary to stay vigilant and be prepared for dangers ahead.

After the exchange session, M. Wan and legislator Kennedy Wong Ying-ho (import-export sector) presented a certificate of appreciation to Secretary Tang as a token of thanks! Nearly 60 people attended the event, including HKCIEA Vice Presidents Jimmy Wong Chi-ho, David Ho Chi-ho, Eddy Li Sau-hung and Pong Kin-yee, Honorary President Chan King, Vice Honorary Secretaries Stanley Choi Tak-shing, Edmond Lee Man-bun and Sophia Lee Shuk-woon, and Executive Directors Chu Kwok-kee, Chiu Chung Yuet-king, Sam Chan Chi-cheuk, Liu Yi-chun, Tony Chiu Chun-mo and Ng Wing-yan. During the interactive session, board members enthusiastically discussed with Secretary Tang about maintaining social stability.
