EXTERNAL MERCHANDISE TRADE STATISTICS FOR DECEMBER 2018

The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) released the external merchandise trade statistics for December 2018. In December 2018, the values of Hong Kong’s total exports and imports of goods both recorded year-on-year decreases, at 5.8% and 7.0% respectively.

 

In December 2018, the value of total exports of goods decreased by 5.8% over a year earlier to $339.9 billion, after a year-on-year decrease of 0.8% in November 2018. Concurrently, the value of imports of goods decreased by 7.0% over a year earlier to $391.2 billion in December 2018, after a year-on-year increase of 0.5% in November 2018.

Comparing the fourth quarter of 2018 with the preceding quarter on a seasonally adjusted basis, the value of total exports of goods decreased by 3.2%. Meanwhile, the value of imports of goods decreased by 5.1%.
